Day 9 – Of Time and Distractions

Those last 5 minutes of my morning walk are the longest 5 minutes of my day. Seriously, by the time I get to that point in my walk, I’m chomping at the bit to get on with things.

I really kind of wish that I could just walk to my heart’s content, because I would most likely walk for a longer period of time. The unfortunate thing is that once I’m up for the day, the time clock starts and I am a slave to it.

I watch You Tube videos during my morning walks, and it helps a lot. Today’s video fest included videos from last night’s Late Show, with Stephen Colbert.

I miss the Colbert Report. I also miss Jon Stewart on the Daily Show. Today’s video included both and that was a treat. The distraction of having something fun to watch makes all the difference in how time passes, and I’m grateful for it. If I am left alone in my head for too long with my thoughts, I end up in worrisome dark places. I like to keep things on the lighter side, and this has shown to be a good way to accomplish that.

Here’s hoping that you all have some lovely distractions in your day, which make an odious chore go a little faster. Blessings all!

Ah…relief!

I’ve been battling a head cold all week. Older Son brought this home from school. Such a giving child, he is.  He managed to get over it within a few days, as did Younger Son. I, for some unexplainable reason, can’t shake this cold. Today I had such a sinus headache, I felt like some small child had pranked me in my sleep by squirting my head full of Elmer’s glue.

Just now, I was kneading homemade pizza crust for supper, and walla! My sinuses cleared, and I can breathe again. I feel like rays of sunshine are shining down on my head and a miracle has happened. The act of breathing is something you really take for granted, until you can’t.

You may have noticed that I’ve been ranting a little bit more than normal, and that’s why. When my head pounds and I’m stuffed up for so many days in a row, I get a little cranky. I think I need to go back and reread my earlier post about digging for blessings, and take some of my own good advice.

In the spirit of boosting my spirits even higher, I went to You Tube in search of something funny to watch, and I found the most delightful video. I remember when my boys were babies, and how they would break out into laughter like this. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Mr. Diety – A video podcast review

By now, all ten of my faithful readers have discovered my love of fun videos. Today, I’m going to give you a review of one humdinger of a video podcast that will knock your socks off. It’s called Mr. Deity. I will be most interested to hear what my buddy over at The Idiot Speaketh thinks about the title music. I can’t wait to get the ring tone for my new cell phone!

This video podcast pokes fun at religion in a good way. It’s smart and gives you something to think about while being entertaining. The whole premise behind it deals with what might it have been like to be God and create everything from scratch, with lots of help from a guy named Larry, and The Devil, who’s your ex-girlfriend.  I mean, you can’t just mix up a bunch of stuff together and get a perfect world where the lights work and where the balance of good and evil is all worked out, like it’s a Betty Crocker cake mix…right? This show is irreverent, imaginative, funny, and very, very well done. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do. Anyway, here are three of my favorite episodes from Season 1.

If you ask me, Lucifer is getting the short end of the stick, regarding the Garden of Eden scene,  in this first example:

This one is my favorite because I just KNEW that there is must be a special place in Hell for cheating husbands. I will never look at the Hokey Pokey the same ever again.  Oh, and by the way…beware of the ear bug in this video. (Muhuwahahaha!)

This one expands on the phrase, “Let there be light”…’nough said!

So far, there are three whole seasons out, and now they are three episodes into the fourth.

Muppets win Webby!

Congrats to the folks at Muppet Studios! The Muppet’s rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody won a Webby award!  Below I’ve posted Animal’s latest message to his Mama, and the video that won the award.  I am so glad to see good clean entertainment getting the kudos it deserves!

Editor’s note: I was perusing more Muppets stuff and discovered Beaker’s acceptance speech. Enjoy!

TED Talks on You Tube

Today I’ve been trying to get some stuff done in the way of organizing my living room. I am a terrible clutterbug, but I come by it honestly. I’m genetically predisposed from birth, and I climb up that organizational mountain every day. If I’m honest with myself, though, most days I don’t even bother to climb the mountain at all. If I don’t get my lack of organization under control, I will end up like another member of my family, but I’ll go into that another day.

So, in trying to get going today I couldn’t decide what I wanted to listen to while I organize.  After a little while I settled on listening to Ted Talks on You Tube.  This explanation is from TED Talks home page (www.ted.com):

TED is a small nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design.

Ted Talks are fabulous, and have something for everyone. People from all walks of life and occupation give talks on their particular areas of understanding. There are visuals, and while they aren’t necessarily needed to digest the information given, I have to say that they are pretty cool. Fascinating stuff…In no time at all, I had finished one task and am happily off to another. I think having something good to listen to completely distracts me from whatever crappy task it is I have at hand.

Having said that, I guess I’ll quit procrastinating and get on with my next task!
