On the Afterlife, and questions to ponder

I’ve been thinking a great deal about the Afterlife since my last blog post regarding suicide. Yes, I did capitalize the word Afterlife, as I consider it a destination. The truth of the matter is, I don’t know what is there, but I have ideas about what it might be like. I think it’s probably a pretty fantastic place, but not a final destination.

What is death, after all? I think it’s like the equivalent of passing through a door on the way to another place. Some get shoved through the door sooner than they wanted or anticipated. Some walk calmly thought the door that has been open and waiting for them. Some hang on to the door jamb in fear. Some open the door for themselves and jump through because they are pretty sure that where they are going is better than where they have just come from. In the end we all cross that threshold, one way or another.

I am a firm believer in reincarnation, and I think that we have chances to “do it over again” as it were. The lessons we didn’t learn in this life will become opportunities to learn in the next.  I believe that the Afterlife allows for those who need rest to have that time to heal. I am also betting that it allows quick turn around time for those who are anxious to jump back into the adventure that is living in a physical form.

What if there is more to the reincarnation cycle than jumping into life back on the same planet, in the same time-space continuum?

What if  there is so much more to our reality than what we know, and our consciousness as we understand it only really skims the surface?

What if the Universe as we know it is somehow finite, and is just a neighbor to several others?

What if there are other planets with life on them, and we are all connected?

What if  this one physical life is just one of many adventures for an infinite soul?

What if I told you that I really don’t drop acid or watch too much Dr. Who, and that I really do ponder all of the above seriously?  My brain feels like exploding for trying to wrap my thoughts around the enormity of it… Who needs drugs or tv when you can ponder deep thoughts and revel in the possibilities?

Though I think the Afterlife is probably a pretty fabulous place where we can all rest and take stock of what we learned in this life, I have so much to see and do while I am still on this Earth. There are so many people to meet, and so many lessons to be learned. So many skills to pick up,  and thoughts to ponder.

Here’s wishing you the time and quiet to plumb the depths of your curiosity, that you make time for wonderment and pondering.  Think deep thoughts and smile…
